 Life: Grissom was born on August 17, 1956 in Santa Monica, California to a middle-class family and grew up in Marina Del Rey, California. His father was a botanist and his mother ran an art gallery in Venice. Grissom's father died when he was nine years old, most likely from heat stroke. His father inspired his love of the natural sciences. He was raised Roman Catholic, but his belief has morphed into a more secular form of Catholicism, which he has said ‘implicates ritualizing aspects of everyday life and then viewing them with a spiritual intensity they would not otherwise possess’. He believes in science more than anything. Work: At the age of 22 Gil was hired on as the youngest coroner in LA County history. At 30 he began working in the field at the Las Vegas Crime Lab. His time since then has been spent in moving the lab from #15 in the country to #2. He is dedicated to his work, almost to a fault, rarely lifting his head from the telescope. Personal: When Gil does get outside of work, his team doubles to the outside world as his friends also. He is closest with Catherine, friendship-wise. Lady Heather is another close friend.
